“The Well will be closing its doors for good on the 1st of September.
We are kicking off a series of events to celebrate the last few months of our artistic home with our favourite exhibition of all – Same Difference.
Part 3 is eleven artists, each using the other’s work as inspiration for original artwork; spanning painting, installation, video, and sculpture.”

The work I submitted for inspiration is a single video version of a 4 screen installation originally created and shown at Linea de Costa, Spain.

The work was the result of a research project into the name Maria and influenced by travels in Europe where the name is predominantly associated with the Virgin Mary, ‘Maria’.

Byzantine icons show ‘Maria’ with red outer garments to signify her original human state and blue inner garments to signify her heavenly nature. This spoke to me about the nature of our existence here on earth, we are both god-like and human at the same time, our souls are infinite but our bodies are animal, a paradox with which the human mind struggles.

This work has become more about this ‘presence’ and an imagining of what this might be like as a visceral, moving, human body rather than a frozen porcelain statue. Also as an exploration into embodied ‘spirituality’ or ‘god within us’.

My new work for this exhibition is in response to Alexandra Morton’s work which is this charming gang of rodents!

In response I have made some little furry books filled with my musings on rats far and near entitled ‘Year of the Rat’.
